“excellent guide in Yangon”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 17 March 2015

We recently came back from Yangon as part of our cruise to South East Asia. We visited many awesome pagodas, but the favourite one was the Island Pagoda. We had to cross the river on a small boat to the small island pagoda. Our guide, Zaw Hein was excellent with ac car, good English and reasonable prices. He picked us up from the Thilawa pier and took us around for two days. We visited a village where the people were so friendly they wanted us to have lunch with them!

“2 EXCELLENT TOURS IN YANGON”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 February 2015

Recently travelled to Yangon as part of a cruise. Exotissimo tours arranged 2 excellent half day tours with a first class guide named Moe . The company will tailor make tours for whatever you want to see and we were not disappointed. Our ship changed docking arrangements and because we were nor nearer to the centre we got longer tours and a refund of $150, how is that for honesty.
The car supplied was comfortable, we were met on time and Moe spoke perfect English and was a fount of knowledge.
Highly recommendded

“Where memories are made”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2015

The Village of Yandado is nestled along the Irrawaddy River up stream near where the confluence meets with the Chindwin River. The primary industry in this sleepy little village is terra cotta pottery making. On the day of our visit we observed the various stages of pottery making, meet the owner, spoke with (through our interpreter) some of the workers and family members, and visited a local primary school.

The owner has been making pottery for 40 years on the site with his wife and sister in law. His four children worked with them while growing up, but one by one they all left to attend Mandalay University. Each pot made bares the stamp of his company. We walked through the pottery making process beginning with collecting the mud to be combined with sand then mixed for two hours in a stomping process typically done by young men from a neighboring villages through removing from the kiln.

Young children help in the wheel turning process by pushing a board to turn the wheel, where a woman forms pots all day. Truly amazing is see them make dozens of pots in a day. Observed the collecting of the various other items needed in the process; straw, wood, peanuts, twigs, and water from the river. The women carry large baskets of pots of their heads transporting them from one step in the process to another.

In the village you will find the owner has solar panels around the property to power lights, a satellite dish, and console television. Interestingly their were several men and women living there significantly past the average age of life expectancy (for the country its 63), one lady was 83 and appears to be enjoying herself chatting with other women. Perhaps it's a combination of the quiet, hard working lifestyle, stress free living which aides in increased longevity.

Nearby we had an opportunity to visit a primary school grades one thru five, where 103 students are enrolled. Some on our group had brought school supplies (pencils, erasers, pens, and paper) for the teachers and students. The energy level was extremely high as might be expected when young children are given gifts. All wore brightly colored attire and the traditional "Than ak ha" makeup on their faces; completely enchanting picture. In the teacher workroom area we had an opportunity to see a generator donated to the school, thus providing lights for each classroom.

As we were leaving we noticed a small shop were various small items could be purchased. The family must go to neighboring village to purchases any items needed about once per week.

Charming, captivating opportunity to observe and talk with local families. By the way don't forget to purchase one of the small pots or animals before you leave.

“Pandaw cruise Myanmar wonderful experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 August 2014

This seven day cruise down the Irrawaddy river is a wonderful experience though not without faults. Pandaw boats and cruises are well arranged and efficient. Cabins are small but perfectly adequate .The cruise staff are excellent (special thanks to Ton, the ever attentive steward) and Terry, the effervescent tour guide who gave a no holds account of Burma and it's current politics. Two days in Bagon was probably too much, though the stupas and temples were well worth seeing which was not the case in other places the boat stopped at.The tours during the day trips were too long and an overdose of seeing endless pagodas was a pity. The free wine offered in the brochure never eventuated nor did the ability to buy wine by the glass rather than an expensive bottle. But overall Pandaw cruises are excellent, casting the tourist back to a golden age of travelling long lost in the 21 st century.

Myanmar is as packed and complex as Thailand itself. Great street food and shopping for those who love Thailand, but security and cleanliness wise is quite bad.
